East Water and Environmental Research Institute (EWERI) is a leading institute for research, education, and expert consulting in water and environmental science and technology. Our research forms a critical foundation for the adoption of sound policies and regulations to protect our natural resources. In collaboration with universities, other research institutions, public bodies, industry and non-governmental organizations, EWERI works to harmonize ecological, economic and social interests in respect of water usage. The Institute thus serves as a bridge between the scientific world and the ‘real world’.

The two research departments represent EWERI’s main themes, which reflect today’s global water challenges: 1) Hydroinformatics, and 2) Remote sensing and environmental sciences.

Our expertise extends (but is not limited) to:

•Using simulation models and information and communication technology to help in solving problems of hydraulics, hydrology and environmental engineering for better management of water systems.

•Application of remote sensing in environmental sciences.

•Groundwater research and management.

•Catchment hydrology and water budget calculation.

•Socio-hydrology.

•Environmental studies and climate adaptation.

•Irrigation water management .

Our mission

EWERI conducts research into all aspect of water resources (both living and non-living) in order to provide scientific and technical information and services, as well as strategies for the sustainable development, utilization and management of such resources for the socio-economic advancement of Iran.
